Meet the farmers

Peter and Rowan Marshall

We have been supplying Bartlett's with potatoes from our farm in Perthshire for over 20 years. We provide the company with 2 varieties; Osprey and Rooster. As well as potatoes we grow raspberries, blackcurrants, (for Ribena), blackberries, blueberries, wheat, barley and oil seed rape.

The enhancement of surrounding environment is an area that is of great interest to us and we take a lot of care in ensuring that we conserve natural habitats. Recently we constructed 3 large ponds for local wildlife and over sixty species of birds have been spotted on the farm this year. The ponds are also enjoyed by local fishers, especially Alyth Youth Club.

Over the winter we put out over fifty bird feeders using over 100 kilos of wheat per day. We are also trialling a maize/sunflower seed mixture to attract wildlife. The Scottish Crop Research Institute is also trialling new 'bumblebee' seed mixes on our field margins.

We passed nine audits this year including Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit, LEAF (Linking Environment and farming), Field to Fork (M&S) and Natures Choice (Tesco).

We also like to get involved in the local farming scene. Rowan is Vice Chairman of both Alyth Agricultural Show and Strathmore Junior Agricultural Club. Back to Farmers
