Meet the farmers

Hugh Niven

On our farm in East Angus we have been supplying Bartlett's with potatoes for over 25 years. We grow 5 main varieties for them including, Saxon, Osprey, Maris Piper, Vivaldi and Rooster. Aside from potatoes we supply Bartlett's with carrots and grow wheat, spring barley, oil seed rape for various different productions. We are also involved in rearing both cattle and black faced sheep.

As well as farming we have a small family hotel in Glen Clova which is one of the 5 Angus Glens. Having these businesses has allow us to get involved with many different environmental schemes and given us the opportunity to create ponds, Silver Birch regeneration and use our unharvested crops to increase the population of small birds. Additionally the hotel is situated right next to the South Esk River which is part of the European Union's LIFE Project. This project aims to conserve the population of Atlantic Salmon and other forms of sea life. Finally Glen Clova Hotel hosts the annual Forfar Road-Runners half marathon which Bartlett's kindly sponsors every year! Back to Farmers
